Centre for Development of Advanced Computing. It’s a premier R&D organization under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in India. CDAC specializes in research and development in the fields of IT, electronics, and associated areas. It’s known for its contributions to high-performance computing, software development, networking, cyber security, and more.
- Back in 1988, when the USA stopped India from importing supercomputers, C-DAC stepped in. Since then, they’ve been on a mission to build our own. It all started with PARAM, our very first supercomputer, with 1 GFLOPS. C-DAC hasn’t stopped since, always pushing to make better and faster machines right here in India.
- Around that time, C-DAC kicked off its efforts in Indian Language Computing Solutions by forming the GIST group (Graphics and Intelligence based Script Technology). Similarly, the National Centre for Software Technology (NCST), which started in 1985, also began its work in Indian Language Computing around that period.
- In 1988, the Electronic Research and Development Centre of India (ER&DCI) became part of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (now MeitY). Before that, its different parts were connected to State Electronic Corporations. ER&DCI focused on using electronics and technology practically in different areas.
- Over time, C-DAC became a hub for innovation, leading to the creation of new areas like Health Informatics. Meanwhile, NCST always focused on Software Technologies. C-DAC also started teaching and training in 1994. As time passed, this grew into a big effort to help Indian industries with specialized training programs.
C-DAC is now a top research organization in IT and electronics. It works closely with MeitY to follow India’s policies and take practical steps in IT. It’s a key player in the IT revolution, always learning new technologies and using its skills to make IT products for different parts of the economy. It follows the goals set by the Indian government and works with many partners to achieve them for more information visit official website cdac.in.
